Small Habit Changes for Better Productivity

Most of us struggle to maintain the same level of productivity throughout the day because, more often than not, after a piece of work is completed, we feel either tired or entirely burnt out.

To keep going, we then take the help of stimulants like nicotine or caffeine as we find it extremely difficult to build up our energy levels to do even the smallest of the small tasks. As a result, we stress ourselves to get things done, and at the end of the day, we do not have time for ourselves or our family.

This lifestyle leads to stagnation and frustration in our professional lives. We feel even more tired and irritated to follow the same routine, day after day.

On the other hand, when we become more productive in our work life, we become more efficient in utilizing the value of our time. When we become productive, we work more smartly and healthily and have plenty of time for ourselves and our dear ones.

So, let’s look at some of the small habit changes that we can implement in our lives to become more productive and increase our work efficiency –

  • Get Plenty of Sleep

Lack of sleep can be seriously damaging to your health, and you may think of the next thing that is there on your to-do list and worry about it before going to bed. Still, all that these worries are doing to you is disrupting your sleep and thereby giving your body and mind less time to heal.

When your body gets an adequate amount of sleep, it functions at its optimum level. On the other hand, a severe lack of sleep drains your body and mind.

So, do not carry your work burden to your bed and sleep peacefully to work correctly.

  • Start Spending Time with Yourself

How much time you keep strictly for yourself determines how productive you actually will be throughout the day. The moment you focus on your growth, needs, and energy levels, you know what to do, when to do it and how to do it.

All highly productive and successful people have this investment of time in themselves. They invest in things that will be beneficial to them only, like reading, exercising, and learning. When you utilize your time to the fullest, you will have enough time for others –this is the thumb rule.

  • Work in Slots

You can be highly efficient even in doing the most unpleasant tasks with this simple tweak to your work routine.

Break big tasks into smaller goals. Or you could break a task into time slots of 25 to 30 minutes. The moment you do that, you stay highly focused on that specific goal for that amount of time. Again, when the 30 minutes run-up, you shift your focus to the next allotted goal for the next time slot.

This is also known as the Pomodoro technique. Performing small tasks builds momentum and helps you stay focused even when your motivation is not that high.

  • Do Not Shy Away from Saying ‘NO!”

“NO” is a powerful word, and productive people make proper use of it. With new projects constantly being pumped into the work pipeline, you might think it’s not a great idea to say ‘No,’ but if you want quality, you need to stop worrying about quantity.

Too many tasks with too much pressure of commitment is both mentally and physically draining. Only focus and work on those tasks which cannot be done without you or needs your full attention. Stay on those critical things and utilize your precious time working on those tasks.

You can be much more productive if you focus on fewer and essential things rather than juggling many things and not accomplishing any quality in either of them.

  • Give Yourself a Break or Two

Taking a break once in a while from the daily work routine always boosts our mental and physical health. Most importantly, breaks are critical when you feel empty from inside. A nature retreat can do wonders for you as it rejuvenates your body and fills your mind with an invigorated sense of purpose.

After coming back from a holiday or vacation, you will often feel more energized or motivated. Therefore, you will have your total energy resources to work even on the most mundane of tasks.
